DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A Volusia County jury has found a man guilty of armed burglary, resulting in a life sentence under Florida’s repeat offender laws, officials said.
After a full-day trial, 44-year-old Michael Vincent King of Port Orange, was convicted of burglary while armed and immediately sentenced to life in prison as a prison releasee reoffender and habitual felony offender.
The charge stems from a March 14, 2025, incident in which King broke into a Daytona Beach home. A witness spotted him inside the residence and called 911.
When Daytona Beach police arrived, officers searched King and found a knife in his pocket that was later determined to belong to the homeowner. Investigators also recovered items reported missing from the home, including property taken from a bedroom. A search of King’s backpack revealed additional stolen items, along with a ski mask and gloves that did not belong to the homeowner.
“Another career criminal off our streets for good,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said. “Your prosecutors are committed to protecting you and your family. Let them know you appreciate their efforts the next time you cross their path.”
The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Amie Assent. The Honorable Kathleen McNeilly presided over the trial and issued the sentence.
