Man Arrested in Minnesota After Bomb Threat at Tampa Assisted Living Facility

TAMPA, Fla. — A man has been arrested in Minnesota after authorities identified him as the suspect in a bomb threat targeting an assisted living facility in Tampa, officials said.

The incident occurred April 7, 2026, when the Colonnade at Carrollwood, located on South Village Drive, received a phone call from an individual claiming there was a bomb inside the building before hanging up.

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded and conducted a thorough search of the facility. Officials said no explosives or credible threats were found.

During the investigation, detectives identified the caller as 33-year-old Alexander Lufriu, who previously lived in Hillsborough County and is now believed to have ties to Scott County, Minnesota.

The Prior Lake Police Department located Lufriu and confirmed the phone number used in the threat was associated with him. He was arrested April 8 in Scott County.

“Threatening lives and causing panic in our community is unacceptable,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will track you down, no matter where you are, and hold you accountable.”

Lufriu is facing charges of making a false report of a bomb, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction, as well as unlawful use of a two-way communications device.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
