Fruitland Park Employee Arrested on DUI Charge After Crash at Sports Complex

FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. — A former part-time city employee was arrested Tuesday following a DUI investigation that began with a crash at a local sports complex, according to the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Officers responded to the Northwest Lake Complex and Cales Field after receiving a report of a vehicle crash that caused damage to a chain link fence. Investigators determined the vehicle had left the scene.

Police later located the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on Century Boulevard from Shiloh Street. While under observation, the vehicle struck a large PVC pipe before officers conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as 58-year-old Annette Marie Matters, a former part-time Sports Coordinator who began working for the city in July 2025, showed signs of impairment during the investigation, authorities said. Officials noted she was operating a personal vehicle at the time.

According to police, Matters refused to participate in field sobriety tests and declined to submit to a breath, blood or urine test.

She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

City officials confirmed Matters is no longer employed by the City of Fruitland Park.
