One Dead, Two Injured After Gunfire Erupts at Daytona Beach Park

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Police are investigating a shooting at a Daytona Beach park that left one man dead and two others wounded early Sunday morning.

According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, officers were initially dispatched to a local hospital after receiving reports that a patient had arrived with a gunshot wound.

During the investigation, officers determined the shooting had occurred at Derbyshire Park during the early morning hours of May 31.

Preliminary findings indicate that an adult man and woman had met and parked together at the park when they were approached by a man they did not know.

Investigators said a disagreement developed between the parties, and the unknown man allegedly displayed a firearm.

According to police, the male victim then retrieved his own firearm and ordered the individual to leave the area. As the victim began walking away, he turned and fired multiple rounds, striking the other man. The male victim then returned fire, striking him as well.

Following the exchange of gunfire, the injured man and woman drove themselves to a local hospital for treatment.

Responding officers later located the other involved man deceased at the park.

Authorities said all parties involved have been identified, but their names are being withheld as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the encounter and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
