CALLAHAN, Fla. – Two Callahan residents were arrested after Nassau County Sheriff’s Office detectives found suspected methamphetamine within reach of a child during a traffic stop, authorities said.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives were monitoring traffic on U.S. 1 on July 16 when they observed a vehicle displaying a license plate registered to a different vehicle.
After stopping the vehicle, investigators determined it was also unregistered and uninsured.
During a search of the vehicle, detectives discovered a small jar containing a white crystal-like substance within reach of a child seated in the back seat. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine, according to investigators.
Authorities arrested Theresa Jean Pfister, 43, and Robert Ryan Martin, 47, both of Callahan.
Pfister and Martin were each charged with child neglect and possession of a controlled substance.
Martin also faces additional charges of driving without a valid driver’s license and attaching a license plate not assigned to the vehicle.
Martin was booked into the Nassau County Jail and Detention Center on a bond exceeding $87,000. Pfister was booked on a bond exceeding $60,000.
The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified, and the child was released into the custody of a family member.
