FORT MYERS, Fla. – A Virginia woman has been extradited to Florida after investigators determined she authored threatening letters sent to a state lawmaker, a sheriff’s office employee and a judge, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Jasmyn Osborne, 27, of Petersburg, Virginia, is charged with three counts of Written or Electronic Threat to Kill or Do Bodily Injury.
The investigation began in June 2025 after a Florida state representative and an employee of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received letters threatening to sexually assault and kill them.
As the investigation continued, agents learned that a Sarasota County judge had also received a similar threatening letter.
According to the FDLE, the letters were submitted to agency forensic laboratories for analysis. Investigators said the examination confirmed that Osborne wrote the letters.
On March 19, 2026, FDLE agents obtained an arrest warrant for Osborne in Collier County.
She was later arrested in Petersburg, Virginia, with assistance from the Virginia State Police.
On July 16, Osborne was extradited to Florida and booked into the Collier County Jail.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police assisted in the investigation.
The Office of the State Attorney for Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit, the 12th Judicial Circuit and the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office are prosecuting the cases corresponding to their respective jurisdictions.
Authorities said Osborne will also be extradited to Sarasota County and Miami-Dade County to face the remaining charges.
The investigation remains active.
