Jacksonville Man Charged With Murder 11 Months After 24-Year-Old Fatally Shot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 20-year-old man already being held in the Duval County Jail on an unrelated armed robbery case has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man nearly a year ago, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Jamari Wyche was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 2, in connection with the death of Javaris Perkins.

The homicide investigation began Oct. 1, 2025, when Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office patrol officers responded to a local hospital after Perkins had been dropped off with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Perkins, 24, died from his injuries despite efforts by medical personnel to save him.

JSO homicide detectives investigated the shooting and eventually identified Wyche as the suspected gunman.

Authorities have not disclosed what led to the shooting, where Perkins was shot or what evidence investigators say connected Wyche to his death.

Wyche was arrested Oct. 13, 2025, less than two weeks after Perkins was killed, in connection with an unrelated armed robbery case.

He has remained in the Duval County Jail since that arrest.

On Sept. 2, homicide detectives formally arrested Wyche in connection with Perkins’ death and added a murder charge to the charges he already faces.
