DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 19-year-old Daytona Beach man has been sentenced to mandatory life in prison after a Volusia County jury convicted him of sexually assaulting a child younger than 12.
Cameron Sheffield Jr. was found guilty Friday, Sept. 25, of sexual battery on a person younger than 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation of a person younger than 12 following a two-day trial.
Circuit Judge Christian Miller imposed the mandatory life sentence immediately after the jury returned its verdict.
Sheffield had been in custody at the Volusia County Jail since his arrest on Nov. 24, 2025. He was denied bond following his arrest.
The information released by prosecutors did not disclose the victim’s age beyond stating that the child was younger than 12. It also did not provide details about when or where the offenses occurred or Sheffield’s relationship to the victim.
The Daytona Beach Police Department investigated the case. Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger prosecuted Sheffield on behalf of the State of Florida.
