Scott Glen Knowlton

Volusia County Man Sentenced to 45 Years After 14 Probation Violations, Violent Encounter in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Volusia County man who fled from police and was later caught on surveillance video attacking a woman in Daytona Beach has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after admitting to 14 probation violations.

Scott Glen Knowlton of Ormond Beach received the sentence Monday, Oct. 5, during a hearing before Circuit Judge Leah Case. He had admitted to violating the terms of his probation in July.

Knowlton was originally convicted in 2023 of trafficking between 14 and 28 grams of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and grand theft of a motor vehicle, along with two additional felonies and a misdemeanor.

He served time in prison before being released on probation.

His legal troubles continued in August 2025 when Holly Hill police encountered him. Authorities said Knowlton fled from an officer and dropped a backpack containing fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.

After investigators identified him, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Knowlton remained wanted in November 2025 when Volusia Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brian Henderson spotted him while driving along Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach.

Henderson saw Knowlton chasing a woman who appeared frightened and was trying to get away, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

When the woman attempted to flee, Knowlton grabbed her and pulled her against her will.

Henderson intervened and ordered Knowlton to stop, but he ignored the command, dropped a backpack and ran toward the Ocean Center.

Surveillance footage later showed Knowlton punching the woman in the back of the head and continuing to restrain her as she struggled to escape, authorities said.

The woman received medical treatment at the scene.

Deputies recovered a firearm and drug paraphernalia from the backpack Knowlton abandoned during the encounter.

Two days later, authorities located and arrested him in Ormond Beach. Sheriff Mike Chitwood credited an anonymous tipster who responded after a reward was offered for information leading to Knowlton’s capture.

The November incident resulted in additional charges, including kidnapping with intent to inflict bodily harm or terrorize a victim, battery, resisting an officer without violence, carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted Florida felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Those charges remain pending, along with additional charges connected to the drug and domestic violence investigations.

Monday’s 45-year prison sentence was imposed in the probation violation case, not as a conviction on the pending charges.

Assistant State Attorney Ashley McCarthy prosecuted the probation violation case, which was investigated by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
