ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 42-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night, Oct. 14, 2026, after deputies say he assaulted a senior citizen at a residence and later barricaded himself inside a vehicle at a gas station, prompting deputies to deploy a K-9 and use a Taser to take him into custody.
Bryan Matthew Marshall, 42, faces charges of battery of a person 65 years of age or older and resisting an officer without violence following the incident in southwest Alachua County.
According to authorities, deputies initially responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 4000 block of Southwest 98th Terrace during the evening hours.
Elderly Victim Injured During Disturbance at Residence
When deputies arrived, they spoke with an elderly victim and a witness who described an altercation involving Marshall.
Both told investigators that Marshall grabbed the victim and twisted the victim’s wrists without any apparent provocation.
The incident caused cuts to the victim’s wrists, according to the account provided to deputies.
Deputies observed injuries that were consistent with the victim’s and witness’s statements.
Marshall had already left the residence before deputies arrived, reportedly driving away in the witness’s vehicle.
Authorities did not disclose the relationship between Marshall and the victim or the circumstances leading up to the disturbance.
Deputies Locate Suspect at Gas Station on Archer Road
At approximately 10 p.m., the witness contacted law enforcement again, reporting that Marshall had returned to the residence and was leaving in a vehicle.
Deputies responded to the area and located Marshall at a gas station in the 7300 block of Southwest Archer Road.
When deputies attempted to make contact, Marshall allegedly refused their commands to surrender.
Deputies initially attempted to use a Taser, but Marshall barricaded himself inside the vehicle and locked the doors.
Concerned that he might flee or use the vehicle as a weapon, deputies positioned their patrol vehicles around his car to prevent it from moving.
Despite repeated verbal commands, Marshall remained inside the locked vehicle and refused to cooperate, according to authorities.
Deputies Break Vehicle Windows, Deploy K-9 During Standoff
As the standoff continued, deputies approached the vehicle using a protective shield.
They broke a passenger-side window to gain access to the interior and deployed a law enforcement K-9 in an attempt to get Marshall to comply.
When the K-9 deployment did not result in his surrender, deputies broke another window and managed to open the driver’s-side door.
The K-9 was removed from the vehicle before deputies attempted to extract Marshall.
Authorities said Marshall continued resisting as deputies removed him from the car.
Deputies then used a Taser to subdue him and take him into custody.
The agency did not disclose how long the confrontation lasted or whether Marshall sustained any injuries during the arrest.
Suspect Booked Into Alachua County Jail
Following his arrest, Marshall was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance.
He was subsequently taken to the Alachua County Jail and booked on two charges:
- Battery of a person 65 years of age or older
- Resisting an officer without violence
