Lutz Woman Charged with Kidnapping, Passport Fraud After Taking Kids to Panama

Kendra Evone Johnson, 37, of Lutz, has been indicted on charges of international parental kidnapping and passport fraud. If convicted, Johnson faces up to 13 years in federal prison.

The indictment alleges that in June 2023, Johnson submitted fraudulent passport applications for her two minor children, falsely claiming she had been unable to contact the children’s father since 2018. The applications stated that the father had been absent from the children’s lives and refused communication, despite evidence showing they had been in contact.

In July 2024, Johnson traveled with the children to Panama, using the fraudulently obtained passports. This trip interfered with the father’s parental rights. The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service and the U.S. Embassy in Panama. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Abigail K. King.
