Duval County Public Schools Earns Prestigious Global Recognition for Educational Excellence

Duval County Public Schools has been recognized on a global scale for its commitment to educational excellence, earning the prestigious “System of Distinction” honor from Cognia, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to school improvement. Only 60 other schools and school systems nationwide and in Puerto Rico share this distinction for 2024.

The recognition comes after an extensive district-wide accreditation review by Cognia, which took place earlier this year. The review included a comprehensive assessment of the district’s policies, programs, learning environments, and cultural contexts, with a third-party evaluation by education experts, classroom observations, and interviews. The review’s focus was on identifying growth in student learning, a healthy learning culture, and effective leadership within the district.

The accreditation not only secures Duval County Public Schools’ standing for the next six years but also highlights the district’s commitment to innovation, strategic leadership, and quality education.

Cognia’s Dianna Weinbaum presented the recognition to the Duval County School Board during a meeting, commending the district’s “unwavering commitment to strategic vision, innovative practices, and effective decision-making.” Weinbaum also noted the district’s high standards in curriculum design and the impactful use of data analytics to enhance the learning experience.

“We are proud of our educators and leaders for this achievement, which reflects the dedication to continuous improvement,” said Paula Renfro, Chief Academic Officer. Renfro, along with former Superintendent Dr. Dana Kriznar, was acknowledged for their role in leading the district through the rigorous accreditation process.

“This recognition is a testament to our team’s commitment to excellence,” Renfro added, emphasizing the collective effort of administrators, educators, and leaders in driving the district’s success.
