Port Charlotte Man Arrested After Throwing Molotov Cocktail at Occupied Vehicle

A Port Charlotte man is in jail after throwing a Molotov cocktail at an occupied vehicle in his driveway early on December 30, 2024.

Jon Scott Warner, 61, was first contacted by deputies on Sunday, December 29, after a domestic dispute call at his residence on Midway Blvd. Deputies spoke with both parties involved and determined no arrest was necessary, advising Warner of his available options.

However, just before 2 a.m. the following morning, deputies received another call from Warner, in which he expressed suspicion that a female had taken his debit card. During the call, Warner was heard saying, “Get back, get back, Molotov,” before communication abruptly ended.

Deputies returned to the residence and observed a fire in the driveway, with a strong odor of gasoline in the air. A man who had pulled into the driveway to drop off the female told deputies that Warner had thrown a lit object at his vehicle. The item, a Molotov cocktail, struck the vehicle, causing the windshield to catch fire and spreading flames across the driveway.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused significant damage to the vehicle. Warner, who was arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail, is being held at the Charlotte County Jail.

Sheriff Bill Prummell emphasized the reckless nature of the act, stating, “This could have been very, very bad for everyone involved. Thankfully, nobody was hurt in this reckless and dangerous act, but Mr. Warner will still be held accountable.”
