Duval County Class of 2024 Breaks Graduation Records, Surpasses State Average

The Duval County Public Schools Class of 2024 has made history with a record-breaking graduation rate, surpassing the state average for years without waived testing requirements.

The district’s overall graduation rate, including charter schools and alternative programs, now stands at 90.9%. Among traditional high schools, the graduation rate reached 95.3%, an increase of over three percentage points from the previous year.

This achievement continues a decade-long upward trend in Duval County’s graduation rates, which have risen by more than 14 percentage points over the past 10 years. Since 2009, the district’s graduation rate has grown by over 32 percentage points, significantly outpacing the state’s 21-point increase.

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Bernier attributed the success to the district’s comprehensive efforts across all grade levels. “The great work of our high schools in preparing students for graduation is supported by strong foundations in our elementary and middle schools,” said Dr. Bernier. “The rapid growth of the graduation rate in Duval County is strong proof of the quality of teaching and learning across our schools.”

Notable achievements among Duval’s traditional high schools include:

  • 100% Graduation Rates: Achieved by Andrew Jackson, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts, Stanton College Preparatory, and Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies.
  • Largest Increases: A. Philip Randolph Career Academies and Englewood High School recorded the highest increases in the district, with gains of 9.35% and 7.23%, respectively.
  • Decade-Long Growth: Andrew Jackson High School’s graduation rate increased by 29.8 percentage points over the last 10 years, reaching 100% for the Class of 2024.

Graduation rates also rose among key student subgroups:

  • African American students: 85.5%
  • Hispanic students: 85.3%
  • Low Socioeconomic Status students: 83.9%
  • Exceptional Student Education students: 88.0%
  • English Language Learners: 76.3%

In a message to employees, Dr. Bernier praised Team Duval’s dedication. “I know I speak for thousands of parents and guardians of recent graduates when I say thank you for doing such amazing work with our students,” he said.
