The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested an 18-year-old student after a loaded firearm was found in his vehicle on school property.
On February 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., a School Resource Deputy at Sumner High School contacted Jason Henson after receiving a tip from school administrators. An administrative search of Henson’s vehicle in the student parking lot led to the discovery of a loaded firearm inside the center console.
Henson refused to disclose how he obtained the weapon and was arrested on one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds.
“I am grateful for our deputy and the school staff’s quick response, ensuring this dangerous situation was handled before anyone was harmed,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Students need to understand that bringing a gun to school is not only reckless; it carries serious consequences.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
