Traffic Stop Near US-441 Leads to Seizure of 45 Pounds of Marijuana and Arrest of California Man

A Friday morning 911 call from a concerned citizen led to the arrest of a California man and the seizure of over 45 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on US-441.

At approximately 8:14 a.m. on June 6, 2025, deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle stopped dangerously close to the lane of travel near SE Happy Valley Glen. Deputies A. Swears and W. Brown located the vehicle and found the driver, identified as 36-year-old Andres Murillomota of Stevinson, California, exhibiting signs of intoxication, including the odor of alcohol and visible vomit.

Upon receiving verbal consent to search the vehicle, deputies discovered two suitcases containing vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana weighing more than 45 pounds combined.

Murillomota was arrested and booked into the Columbia County Jail. He is charged with Trafficking in Cannabis under Florida Statute 893.135(1)(a).
