Gainesville Man Gets 20-Year Sentence in Child Pornography Case

GAINESVILLE, Fla.—A Gainesville man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple child pornography charges, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

On August 28, James H Major, 21, accepted a plea negotiation for 27 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device. The charges stemmed from an investigation that began on October 17, 2024, when detectives discovered that Major had uploaded and stored child sexual abuse material to his cloud storage account.

During his initial interview, Major admitted ownership of the account and claimed the specific upload was accidental. However, he also confessed to intentionally seeking out “lewd content from pubescent children.”

As part of his sentencing, Major will also serve 10 years of sex offender probation following his prison term.

The Gainesville Police Department encourages parents, teachers, and children to find online resources to prevent the exploitation of children through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) website.
