SARASOTA, Fla.—A man wanted for a 2006 capital sexual battery case in Florida has been arrested in Tennessee after 19 years on the run.
Eleazar Briones-Vega, 50, was arrested without incident on Thursday, August 28, in White Pine, Tennessee, by a multi-agency task force. He was wanted on charges of capital sexual battery after a victim, who was under the age of 10 at the time, reported that he had inappropriately touched her for three years before leaving Florida.
Briones-Vega is being held at the Jefferson County Detention Center in Tennessee and is awaiting extradition to Florida.
The arrest was a joint effort between the Sarasota Police Department, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal Service Florida-Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force and Eastern Tennessee Smoky Mountains Task Force.
