HAWTHORNE, Fla. — The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a violent stabbing and subsequent standoff on Wednesday afternoon that left one person hospitalized and a suspect in custody.
At approximately 2:47 p.m. on September 24, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a fight and stabbing in the 6600 block of SE U.S. Highway 301. Deputies arrived to find a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was treated at the scene by Alachua County Fire Rescue before being transported for further medical care.
Witnesses told deputies the suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV, providing both a partial tag number and a direction of travel. A short time later, deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling westbound on SE Hawthorne Road.
After confirming the plate, deputies initiated a high-risk traffic stop. The driver, who matched the suspect description, refused to leave the vehicle despite repeated commands and phone negotiations. After about 20 minutes, the suspect exited but continued to resist orders. A Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was deployed, allowing deputies to safely make the arrest.
For safety, both lanes of SE Hawthorne Road were shut down during the incident, reopening once the situation was under control.
The suspect has not yet been publicly identified. Deputies say his name and charges will be released once confirmed.
