FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies made 27 arrests between Friday evening and early Monday morning, responding to 539 calls for service and conducting 104 traffic stops, according to the agency.
Among the incidents, detectives with the Problem Area Crime Enforcement (PACE) Unit arrested two men after witnessing what appeared to be a drug transaction at a Palm Coast gas station.
Deputies say Neild Joseph, 26, was seen exchanging an object for cash with a man on a motorcycle before leaving the gas station in an SUV. Detectives later stopped the vehicle at Bing’s Landing and noticed signs of narcotics in plain view. A search turned up fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Joseph was charged with possession of fentanyl, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, and later released on a $3,500 bond. His passenger, Jason Mesagaes Jr., 24, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and remains jailed on a $3,500 bond. Both men have lengthy arrest histories in Flagler County.
“These poison peddlers are frequent offenders,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “If you’re a poison peddler or career offender, you’re next to go to the Green Roof Inn.”
In another case, deputies arrested Justin Santos, 35, of Bunnell, after he allegedly attacked a neighbor who was walking his dog on Nutwood Avenue. Witnesses told deputies Santos ran at the man, punched him in the face, and placed him in a chokehold before bystanders intervened.
Deputies say Santos initially refused to cooperate, but he was arrested the next morning and charged with battery and battery by strangulation. He was booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and later released on an $11,000 bond.
Sheriff Staly condemned the violence, saying: “Whatever happened between these two, it is never ok to get violent and punch or choke someone.”
