Florida Agencies Arrest 19 Sex Offenders in St. Johns County Compliance Sweep

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla.—A four-day operation targeting registered sexual offenders and predators in St. Johns County resulted in 19 arrests and the issuance of 36 additional arrest warrants for failure to comply with state reporting requirements.

The initiative, dubbed Operation Unified Watch, was a collaborative effort between the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the Saint Augustine Police Department, and the Florida Department of Corrections.

During the operation, investigators made contact with 207 registered sex offenders and predators in the county to verify compliance with Florida’s registration laws. The 19 individuals arrested include two sexual predators and 17 sexual offenders.

The charges include failure to report for registration, failure to obtain a Florida driver’s license or ID card, and failure to properly report changes to employment, vehicles, email addresses, and internet identifiers.

Update on Absconders

Two sexual offenders, Joseph Vanderbush and Jack Faria, were confirmed to have absconded from their registered residences during address checks.

  • Vanderbush was subsequently located and arrested in Levy County on October 2.
  • Faria remains at large.
