On the morning of Saturday, December 10, 2022, 43-year-old Pedro Ramirez of Lakeland was found fatally injured along US 98 South near Innovation Drive, close to Oak Hill Cemetery. Detectives with the PCSO Traffic Homicide Unit believe Ramirez was walking north when he was struck from behind by a vehicle sometime between midnight and 7 a.m.
Investigators indicate the suspect vehicle may have been a late 1990s or early 2000s GM pickup or large SUV, likely sustaining damage to the right front mirror, bumper/grill area, and right headlight.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 863-298-6200. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-888-400-TIPS (8477), and a reward may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
Sheriff’s officials stressed that even the smallest bit of information could help bring justice for Ramirez and his family.
