Brevard County Man Arrested After Home Invasion and Raping Woman at Knifepoint

BREVARD COUNTY, FL – A Brevard County man is in custody following a violent home invasion and sexual assault, according to Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

On January 5, deputies responded to a call after a woman was seen banging on a neighbor’s door, begging for help. The victim told deputies she had been in the process of moving out of her residence and had noticed a man lingering around the area for several days.

According to investigators, the suspect rushed into her apartment, held her at knifepoint, and sexually assaulted her. The suspect then fled the scene, taking the victim’s phone and car keys.

The victim provided deputies with a detailed description of the suspect. Surveillance video from the surrounding area helped investigators obtain images, which ultimately led to the identification of Kelvin Johnson as the suspect.

Agent Michelle Sweet-Caporizzo obtained a no-bond arrest warrant for Johnson, signed by Judge Charlie Crawford. Members of the GAMEOVER Task Force located and arrested Johnson earlier today.

Johnson has been charged with Sexual Battery, Home Invasion Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Violation of Probation. He is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex.

Sheriff Ivey praised the victim’s neighbor for calling for help and commended deputies, agents, and crime scene investigators for their swift response and thorough investigation. He also expressed support for the victim as she continues to recover from the traumatic incident.
