JACKSONVILLE, FL – A quick-turnaround investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has removed a stolen firearm from the streets and landed a repeat offender back behind bars.
Rashard Fulton, 26, was arrested on Thursday, January 8, 2026, just three days after he allegedly snatched a handgun from a Highlands-area pawn shop and fled on foot.
The incident occurred on Monday, January 5th, at a pawn shop located on Leonid Road. According to police, Fulton entered the establishment and asked an employee to see a handgun. Once the weapon was in his hands, he reportedly sprinted out of the store without paying.
Detectives with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) took over the case, utilizing surveillance footage from the shop and surrounding businesses to identify Fulton as the primary suspect.
The Takedown
Following the identification, JSO patrol officers and the Community Problem Response (CPR) Unit launched a search for the suspect. On January 8, teams located Fulton and took him into custody without incident.
During the arrest, officers searched Fulton’s bag and successfully recovered the stolen firearm.
A Repeat Offender
This arrest marks Fulton’s fourth local arrest in Jacksonville. Police noted that while the suspect may have intended a simple “five-finger discount,” the theft of a firearm carries significant legal weight. Fulton now faces at least one felony charge related to the theft.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reminds business owners that “cameras are almost everywhere,” and high-quality surveillance continues to be one of the most effective tools for solving retail thefts.
