Former Home Health Aide Arrested Again After Second Senior Reports Theft in Putnam County

FLAGLER & PUTNAM COUNTIES, FL – Deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit, working alongside the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit, arrested a former home health aide for a second time on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, after another senior victim came forward with allegations of theft and fraud.

Investigators say the latest arrest involves Katie Swain, 32, of Pomona Park, who was previously charged in December for stealing from a senior under her care. In early January, management at HarborChase Assisted Living reported that a second resident had discovered unauthorized activity on their debit card. The victim told deputies the card went missing while Swain was employed as a home health aide and assigned to provide care. The victim also reported $50 in missing cash.

According to investigators, Swain made 27 unauthorized transactions totaling approximately $2,700, using the victim’s debit card as if it were her own. Purchases included more than $500 at BJ’s Wholesale Club, food and drinks from several fast-food restaurants, candy purchases, multiple gas station stops, and two Home Depot transactions totaling more than $800.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly sharply criticized Swain’s actions, saying she abused a position of trust meant to protect vulnerable seniors. Investigators credited cooperation from multiple retailers, who provided transaction records and surveillance video confirming Swain made the purchases.

Swain was arrested on a warrant for:

  • Theft from a person 65 years of age or older
  • Fraudulent use of a credit card
  • Unlawful use of personal identification information without consent

She was booked into the Putnam County Jail on the Flagler County warrant and later released on a $7,500 bond, which is in addition to the $10,000 bond from her previous arrest.

Prior Case Details

Swain was first arrested on December 31, 2025, following a month-long investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office after another HarborChase resident reported missing cash and unauthorized debit card charges. In that case, detectives determined Swain stole $30 in cash and made more than $600 in fraudulent purchases, with surveillance video capturing her using the victim’s card at multiple locations.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and they encourage anyone who believes they may have been victimized to contact law enforcement.
