Door-to-Door Solicitor Shot Multiple Times in Tampa Bay, Suspect Arrested

BRANDON, Florida – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Brandon man accused of shooting a door-to-door solicitor following a confrontation in a residential neighborhood.

Deputies responded around 8 p.m. on February 18, 2026, to a shooting call in the area of Fluorshire Drive at the Providence Townhomes community. When deputies arrived, they located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body and immediately began lifesaving aid. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, the victim and a female co-worker were going door-to-door selling telecommunications products and services when 38-year-old Reginald McGee allegedly became verbally aggressive toward the female employee. As the pair began walking away, McGee reportedly attacked the male solicitor.

During the altercation, detectives say McGee pulled a firearm from his waistband and opened fire. As the victim attempted to flee, McGee allegedly chased him while continuing to shoot until he ran out of ammunition.

McGee then returned to his residence. Deputies say he later exited the home armed with a firearm and was taken into custody without further incident.

McGee faces the following charges:

• Attempted Second-Degree Murder with a Firearm – Great Bodily Harm
• Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm with a Firearm
• Discharging a Firearm in Public or on Residential Property

“This was a completely unnecessary escalation that left a man seriously injured simply for doing his job,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “When a disagreement turns into gunfire, that is a choice, and it is a criminal one. Our deputies acted quickly to take this suspect into custody, giving residents in this neighborhood peace of mind and preventing further harm.”
