TALLAHASSEE, FL — A 31-year-old man was arrested Friday, April 10, 2026, by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit for the commercial sexual exploitation of a minor. Tyrone Furman faces multiple charges related to human trafficking and sexual offenses after a months-long investigation that stemmed from a large-scale child recovery operation.
The arrest marks a major follow-up to Operation Northern Lights, a intensive multi-agency initiative conducted in December 2025. The special operation involved the U.S. Marshals Service, FDLE, and Homeland Security.
From Recovery to Arrest
During the two-week operation in late 2025 detectives located and safely recovered a missing juvenile in Quincy, Florida.
Following the child’s recovery, HEAT Unit detectives launched a secondary investigation into the circumstances of the juvenile’s disappearance. They discovered that the minor had been advertised on online solicitation platforms. Investigators allege that Furman was the primary individual directing the minor’s activities and financially profiting from the exploitation. Additionally, evidence was developed indicating that Furman engaged in sexual activity with the victim.
“Operations Don’t End”
Sheriff Walt McNeil emphasized that the recovery of a child is often just the beginning of a criminal investigation.
“Operations like this don’t end when the operation ends,” Sheriff McNeil stated. “Even months later, we’re still working these cases, still building them, and still making arrests. If you exploit children, we will find you and hold you accountable.”
Active Investigation
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office indicates that this remains an active investigation as they continue to examine digital evidence and potential links to other exploitation cases.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case or other instances of human trafficking to contact the Leon County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 296-5260.
