JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was injured in a shooting Monday afternoon near a Jacksonville high school, prompting an increased police presence in the area, authorities said.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, officers responded around 2:30 p.m. on April 13, 2026, to a report of a possible fight involving at least a dozen people near Raines High School.
While the caller was still on the line with dispatch, additional information indicated that shots had been fired.
When officers and detectives arrived, they located a 20-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. Police confirmed the victim is not a student at the school.
Authorities detained multiple individuals at the scene and are currently interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit is leading the case.
As a precaution, additional officers will be present near Raines High School during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
