KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A man has been arrested and charged after a fatal shooting that investigators say was accidental, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 8:40 p.m. May 6 to a residence on Chatham Circle, where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, identified as Orlando Jose Canizales, was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit determined that Canizales had been shot by a friend, identified as Carlos Garcia, while Garcia was mishandling a loaded firearm.
Based on the investigation, Garcia was arrested and charged with manslaughter with a firearm. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail.
Authorities said the case remains under investigation and noted there have been other unrelated homicides in the area.
