Clay County Deputy Involved in Fatal Shooting of Mississippi Murder Suspect in Oakleaf Plantation

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Clay County deputy fatally shot a man wanted for homicide in Vicksburg, Mississippi after authorities said the suspect armed himself with knives and resisted arrest during an investigation in Oakleaf Plantation.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded May 9, 2026, to the Silver Bluff neighborhood to assist the Florida Department of Children and Families with an investigation.

While checking the identities of individuals at the residence, deputies learned that one of the subjects, identified as 48-year-old Morris Anthony Davis, had an outstanding homicide warrant from Mississippi.

Authorities said Davis armed himself with two knives and exited through the back of the residence while deputies attempted to take him into custody.

Investigators said Davis resisted deputies and fled into a neighboring yard while still armed. Deputies continued efforts to de-escalate the situation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said deputies deployed Tasers multiple times in an attempt to disarm Davis, but the attempts were unsuccessful.

The sheriff’s office said Deputy Sheriff D. Brown then fired at Davis.

Deputies requested emergency medical assistance and attempted life-saving measures, but Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office acknowledged that video of the incident has circulated on social media.

Authorities said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office are conducting independent investigations into the shooting and surrounding circumstances.

Deputy Brown has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy pending the outcome of the investigations.
