JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to battering a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer during an arrest outside a local charter school last year.
Erika McGriff pleaded guilty to Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and was adjudicated guilty in connection with the Oct. 7, 2025, incident, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said Officer Randy Holton contacted McGriff after finding her vehicle illegally parked outside the school. When she refused lawful orders to move the vehicle, the officer attempted to place her under arrest.
According to the sheriff’s office, McGriff physically resisted and bit Officer Holton on the arm, leaving a visible bite mark. The encounter was captured on the officer’s body-worn camera, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office later released the video publicly.
As part of her sentence, McGriff was ordered to serve 120 days in the Duval County Jail, followed by 12 months of community control. She was also ordered to complete 50 hours of community service, an anger management course, the Batterers Intervention Program and the Choices & Consequences course. In addition, the court ordered her to write a letter of apology to Officer Holton.
The sheriff’s office also noted that McGriff was arrested in an unrelated simple battery case in April 2026. According to JSO, that arrest marked her 10th arrest in Duval County.
Authorities said two other individuals were arrested during the October 2025 incident for allegedly violating Florida’s Halo Law after interfering with Officer Holton while he attempted to take McGriff into custody.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the guilty plea and sentence bring justice to the injured officer and reinforce that assaults on law enforcement officers will be prosecuted.
