JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A registered sexual offender listed as non-compliant in Kentucky was arrested in Jacksonville Beach after officers determined he had failed to comply with Florida’s sex offender registration requirements.
Jacksonville Beach officers encountered the man, identified by authorities as Eric Lamar Thompson, while following up on a sleeping-in-public investigation in the 500 block of Beach Proper North.
During the investigation, officers determined that Thompson was a registered sexual offender and had been listed as non-compliant in Kentucky.
Police said further investigation revealed that Thompson is a non-expiring, lifetime registrant stemming from an offense committed in Alabama.
After determining that Thompson had not registered as required after coming to Florida, officers arrested him for failing to comply with Florida’s sexual offender registration requirements.
Thompson was subsequently booked into the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, where authorities said he is being held on a $102,506 bond.
Police did not provide additional information about Thompson’s original Alabama offense or how long he had been in Florida before his arrest.
Jacksonville Beach authorities said registration requirements are intended to help protect the public and emphasized that offenders who fail to comply with those requirements will be held accountable.
“We are glad to have this offender off our streets,” the department said.
