Driver Sentenced to 47 Years for DUI Crash That Killed Two on State Road A1A

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Volusia County man who was driving as fast as 147 mph before a crash that killed two people on State Road A1A has been sentenced to 47 years in prison.

64-year-old Scott P. March received the sentence Wednesday, Oct. 7, after pleading no contest in August to two counts of DUI manslaughter and two counts of vehicular homicide.

The deadly crash occurred Nov. 1, 2025, as March was driving on State Road A1A in Volusia County.

Investigators determined March reached 147 mph just seconds before the collision. He was traveling approximately 110 mph when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a designated no-passing zone, according to prosecutors.

March struck the rear of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

The driver died at the scene. A passenger was transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries.

A toxicology report showed March had a blood alcohol level of approximately 0.13% at the time of the crash. Florida’s legal limit for drivers is 0.08%.

“Two people are dead because the defendant chose to drive in a reckless and intoxicated state,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said following the sentencing. “Forty-seven years in prison cannot bring them back, but it does send a clear message to drunk drivers that you will pay dearly for your criminal transgressions.”

The Florida Highway Patrol and investigators with the State Attorney’s Office investigated the case.

Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger prosecuted the case for the State of Florida. Circuit Judge Christian Miller imposed the 47-year prison sentence.
