Scott Beverst, of Palm Coast, entered a guilty plea on Oct. 7 in the 7th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols handed down the 20-year state prison sentence, along with a mandate that Beverst register as a sexual offender for life and complete 15 years of sex offender probation upon his release.
Multi-Agency Task Force Uncovers 16,000 Files
Beverst was initially arrested in April 2020 by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Cyber Crimes/Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, operating in partnership with the Northeast Florida Inter-Agency Child Exploitation and Persons Trafficking Task Force.
Following his initial arrest on 10 counts, forensic detectives executed secondary digital examinations of Beverst’s electronic devices. Investigators uncovered more than 16,000 illicit files, including material depicting severe abuse, leading the State Attorney’s Office for the 7th Judicial Circuit to file an additional 20 felony counts.
Judicial Disposition and Law Enforcement Response
Beverst is currently held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility in Flagler County awaiting formal transfer to the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC).
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly commended the collaborative efforts between local detectives, the State Attorney’s Office, and private non-profit partners including Operation Light Shine in securing the multi-decade conviction.
“This defendant earned every second of the next two decades he’ll be behind bars, plus being designated as a sex offender for the rest of his life,” Sheriff Staly said. “I commend our team and our partners at Operation Light Shine and the State Attorney, Florida’s 7th Circuit for all their hard work to put him in prison, and the judge for giving him a strong and well-deserved sentence.”
