Jacksonville Man Arrested for Murder After Fatal Shooting on Broward Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was arrested Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, after detectives identified him as the suspect in a fatal shooting that left a man in his 40s dead along Broward Road the previous day.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) identified the suspect as Keith Carter Jr., who faces charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The shooting occurred Friday, Oct. 9, on Broward Road near Interstate Center Drive in Jacksonville.

According to JSO, District 6 patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a man in his 40s lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or provided additional information about his injuries.

Detectives Identify Suspect Following Overnight Investigation

Following the shooting, JSO homicide detectives worked through the night interviewing witnesses and executing search warrants.

Investigators said the evidence gathered during those efforts led them to identify Carter as the suspect.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, detectives located and arrested Carter on charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Carter was booked into the Duval County Jail, where he remains in custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting or whether Carter and the victim knew each other.

Authorities also have not released Carter’s age or detailed what evidence connected him to the homicide.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the victim’s family and said investigators remain committed to seeking justice in the case.
