Wakulla County Deputy Shoots Armed Man Who Barricaded Himself Inside Home During Court Order Service

WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot an armed man Friday morning, November 6, 2026, after the man barricaded himself inside a home and later approached deputies aggressively while carrying a weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

The shooting occurred in the Hidden Meadows subdivision as deputies attempted to serve civil court paperwork at a residence.

According to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially contacted the man named in the court order, but he refused to come outside to speak with them.

Instead, authorities said, the man barricaded himself inside the home, prompting additional deputies to respond.

As deputies worked to establish a secure perimeter around the residence, the man emerged armed and moved aggressively toward them, according to investigators.

A Wakulla County deputy fired his service weapon, which the sheriff’s office described as an act of self-defense to protect himself and other deputies nearby.

The deputy was not injured.

Deputies immediately began administering first aid to the wounded man and requested emergency medical services.

Paramedics transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

Aggravated Assault Charges Pending, FDLE Investigating Shooting

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office said investigators are working to obtain arrest warrants charging the man with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the reported aggravated assault, while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting a separate investigation into the deputy’s use of his firearm.

Sheriff Miller requested FDLE’s involvement, following the department’s standard procedure for shootings involving Wakulla County deputies.

Both investigations remain active.

The sheriff’s office said additional information will be released when appropriate as the investigations progress.
