United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has announced the arrest of Brett Baldwin, a 43-year-old resident of Mount Dora, on charges of possessing child sex abuse material. Baldwin faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
According to court documents, Baldwin came under scrutiny during an investigation related to a missing person in Lake County. Law enforcement seized Baldwin’s cellphone as part of the inquiry, and a forensic examination revealed numerous images of child sex abuse material. Shockingly, some of the juveniles depicted in these images and videos were under the age of 12.
It’s important to note that a complaint is a formal charge and indicates that a defendant is alleged to have committed violations of federal criminal law. However, every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The investigation into this case was conducted collaboratively by Homeland Security Investigations, the Mount Dora Police Department, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
