Records broken and more could fall this week

Several records were set at local climate sites Tuesday August 8th after Monday’s bast of record heat.

Jacksonville reached a daily record high temp of 99F, along with peak heat index of 114F on August 8. This tied the old 114° record set in 2007.

Alma, GA Set a new August monthly dew point record of 82F, and peak heat index of 118F.

After a heat index of 126 Monday in Mayport, St. Simons Island, GA, it reached a peak heat index of 121F Tuesday. The maximum temp of 102F was the highest of all-time for the month of August, breaking 101F from 8-11-2011.

Craig Exec Airport, Reached a daily record high temp of 99F, and a peak heat index of 116F.

Gainesville, FL had a second consecutive day with an all-time August high peak heat index of 114F.

The outlook shows no end soon. Excessive Heat will continue throughout the greater Jacksonville area with widespread Heat Indices in the 110-115 range, with some 115-120 heat indices along the I-95 corridor and Atlantic beaches as highs remain locked in the mid to upper 90s, and almost 100 degrees along the I-95 corridor through the weekend.
