Female suspect shot by trooper following pursuit, crash in Flagler County: FHP

The Florida Highway Patrol said a female suspect was shot by a trooper following a pursuit and crash in Flagler County on Wednesday evening.

According to FHP, the trooper tried to pull the woman over around 5:40 p.m. in the Palm Coast but she drove off.

After a brief pursuit, FHP said the suspect was involved in a collision and came to a stop. As the pursuing trooper was attempting to catch the female suspect, “the trooper discharged his department issued handgun and struck one of the suspects,” FHP said.

The trooper wasn’t hurt and the woman was taken to a local hospital. A second woman was in the car with the suspect but it’s unclear what charges she will face.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said that several roads were closed as they assisted FHP with a “critical incident,” according to WKMG.

Deputies said there was a large law enforcement presence in the area of 16th Road and State Road A1A in Palm Coast.

“There is believed to be no danger to the public,” the sheriff’s office posted on social media.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now in charge of the investigation, FHP said.

No additional information has been provided, including the severity of the suspect’s injuries or whether the suspect was armed.
