St. Johns County officials ask residents to avoid coastal areas as storm pushes into the area

As the storm continues to push into our area, St. Johns County Officials are asking residents to remain safe and avoid coastal areas if possible.

To try and keep everyone safe, the county closed beach driving to the public until Sunday due to tidal flooding.

They’re also worried this storm could cause significant beach erosion.

Earlier Saturday, North Beach Park waters looked choppy, but it didn’t appear to be any damage to the renourishment project that began in August to stop the beach erosion.

But with conditions like the ones expected to hit overnight, the county said there is a possibility for dangerous coastal and marine conditions to impact them through Sunday.

There could be significant beach erosion and there could be high rip current risks and high surf.

The ocean pier is closed to pedestrians until Sunday.

The county will assess things in the morning to see which beach accesses can be opened tomorrow.
