Pedestrian darts into traffic on SR-17, gets hit by driver: FHP

A pedestrian was killed after running into traffic on Friday night in St. Johns County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, witnesses said a 29-year-old man was arguing with someone in a vehicle while driving on State Road 16, just west of South Francis Road around 8:30 p.m.

A 71-year-old woman was driving east on SR-16 when the pedestrian got out of his vehicle and ran across the highway right into the sedan’s path, the report said.

FHP said the driver was unable to slow down in time and hit the man.

The man died from his injuries. The woman was uninjured.
