Jacksonville U.S. Navy veteran receives new roof as part of national project

On Monday, a Jacksonville U.S. Navy veteran received a new roof from Reliant Roofing as part of the Owens Coming Roof Deployment Project (OCRDP).

According to the press release, through a partnership with Purple Heart Homes, Richard Haddix was selected for the roof replacement which was estimated to cost around $18,000. The OCRDP is a nationwide effort to honor veterans and their families since its inception in 2016.

Haddix, who served in the Navy for 30 years, wasn’t at home when Reliant Roofing arrived at his house to begin work on the roof. His son, Renco Santos was in the home with his younger sister and they were excited that their father was selected for the new roof.

“We haven’t had a new roof since we moved in,” Santos said. He added that the roof would leak sometimes when it rained.

Mirio Chaves, product manager for Reliant Roofing, said the company wanted to honor Haddix.

“We want to say thank you to Mr. Richard for his service,” Chaves said. “We just want to give back to the community and that is a priority for Reliant.”
