Two Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting During Armed Robbery in Jacksonville

On February 27, 2024, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at around 12:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Lane Avenue South. Upon arrival, they found an unidentified black male suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the victim, identified as 28-year-old Lloyd Burgess, was pronounced deceased.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit initiated investigations into the incident. Their inquiries revealed that Burgess was killed while involved in an armed robbery alongside two other suspects. The outstanding suspects were identified as Darius Person, 29, and Gabriel Woods, 23, both black males.

On March 19, 2024, Woods was taken into custody on unrelated charges and brought to the Police Memorial Building for questioning. Following this, an arrest warrant was issued for Suspect Person, who was subsequently apprehended and taken to the Police Memorial Building for interrogation.

Both Person and Woods have been arrested on charges including felony murder, attempted armed robbery, and attempted armed burglary.
