Shooting at Inverness Walmart Parking Lot Leads to Arrest, Two Victims Injured

On Monday night, April 8th, a shooting incident occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart in Inverness, FL, prompting a response from Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Gavin Minden, fled the scene towards Lowes on foot.

The CCSO’s Aviation Unit was called in to aid the search and located Minden hiding near the woods close to Lowes. Meanwhile, the victims involved in the shooting left the scene safely in their vehicle.

Detectives obtained surveillance footage showing the events leading up to the shooting, which took place near the bus stop at the front of Walmart. Although the shooting itself was not captured on camera, the footage revealed a verbal altercation before the suspect fired at the victims’ truck, hitting one victim in the back of the neck. The injured victim was later transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, while the other victim remained unharmed.

“Minden’s reckless actions in a public area not only endangered the lives of the two victims directly involved but also posed a serious threat to our citizens,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “I am proud of the teamwork between our deputies and Aviation Unit for swiftly locating and apprehending Minden, preventing him from further endangering our community.”

Minden has been charged with two counts of attempted homicide and one count of shooting into an occupied conveyance.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
