On Thursday, August 1, 2024, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Patrol Officers responded to a call in the 900 block of Cesery Boulevard regarding a shooting. The suspect, Daton Haggary, 42, admitted to having shot two individuals in the 1200 block of Whitlock Avenue.
Officers detained Haggary, and upon further investigation, discovered two deceased victims at the scene. The victims were identified as Bryan Gates, 44, and Shilea Curtis, 40,, both of whom had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
JSO’s Homicide Team 2 and the Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene for investigation. Initially, Haggary was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Subsequent investigation led to Haggary being charged with two counts of Murder on August 8, 2024.
