On Monday, August 19th, in a Citrus County courtroom, 27-year-old Joshua Aaron Schuler was sentenced to Life in Prison without the possibility of parole. Schuler had been found guilty in July of one felony count of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation of a Child Less than 12 Years of Age and one count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance.
Bill Gladson, Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney, stated, “I trust this sentence will reaffirm our community’s faith in the criminal justice system, that offenders will be held accountable to the fullest extent possible.” Gladson also expressed gratitude for the courageous individual who reported the crime, highlighting their actions as instrumental in protecting others.
The charges against Schuler stemmed from an incident in September 2022. Deputies with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a residence in Homosassa following a call for service. The complainant reported discovering a video on Schuler’s phone that showed him molesting the victim. The video, timestamped September 3, 2022, at 1:32 a.m., was reviewed by the complainant who then contacted law enforcement.
CCSO’s Special Victims Unit Detective Richey investigated the case and arrested Schuler. The prosecution was led by Assistant State Attorney Kevin Davis.
