Florida State Attorney Bill Gladson has announced the grand jury indictment of 21-year-old Donald Donell Jamison in connection with the July 30, 2024, shooting that led to the death of 53-year-old Claudia Barbosa and the injury of another individual.
Jamison has been indicted on one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder with a Firearm, one count of Attempted Felony Murder, two counts of Robbery with a Firearm, and one count of Escape from a Law Enforcement Officer.
On the day of the incident, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) received a call reporting that two individuals had been shot at a Brooksville restaurant. According to the caller, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. Upon arrival, first responders found Claudia Barbosa and the second victim with gunshot wounds. Barbosa was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis and his team conducted a thorough investigation, utilizing surveillance footage and information from multiple witnesses. A statewide broadcast was issued for the suspect’s vehicle, and shortly afterward, the Florida Highway Patrol spotted a vehicle matching the description. Troopers conducted a traffic stop and identified Jamison as the driver, matching the suspect’s description.
Jamison was detained and transported back to Hernando County for questioning by HCSO investigators. During his time in custody, Jamison attempted to escape but was quickly apprehended and arrested.
