Last week, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Detective Biuk was contacted by a Probation Officer from the Florida Department of Corrections regarding suspicions that Brandon Cox had forged a DD 214, a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. The document, issued by the United States Department of Defense, is used to access various benefits and memberships in veterans’ organizations.
The Probation Officer believed that Cox submitted this forged document to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Detective Biuk reviewed the document and subsequently contacted the Army Criminal Investigation Division at MacDill Airforce Base. A query conducted by the Army Criminal Investigation Division revealed no records of military service for Cox.
Following this discovery, Detective Biuk arrested Cox and transported him to the Citrus County Detention Facility. Cox faces charges of knowingly making false statements during his application for a Florida Driver’s License and violating probation. He is being held without bond due to his status as a registered sex offender, pending a future court date.
