Drug Dealer Convicted of Murder in Overdose Death of Jacksonville Mother

Florida State Attorney Melissa Nelson has announced that a Duval County jury found Reginald McKeiver guilty of Murder by Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance and Sale, Manufacture, or Delivery of a Controlled Substance. McKeiver faces up to life in Florida State Prison, with sentencing to be determined by the Honorable Anthony Salem at a later date.

The case stems from an incident on December 4, 2022, when the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to an overdose death at a hotel on St. Johns Bluff. The victim, a 49-year-old mother, was living at the hotel with her teenage daughter. After coming home from work on December 3, the victim went to bed and was later found unresponsive by her daughter the next morning. The daughter contacted her father, who called 911, but rescuers pronounced the victim dead at the scene from an overdose.

Investigators discovered text messages between the victim and a drug dealer referred to as “P” and “Phil.” After multiple controlled drug purchases and interviews, the dealer was identified as McKeiver. An autopsy on January 23, 2023, revealed the victim died from para-Fluorofentanyl mixed with xylazine, an animal tranquilizer. Drugs purchased from McKeiver were also tested and found to contain the same combination of substances. McKeiver was arrested on January 29, 2023, for the murder and sale of narcotics.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Joe Licandro and Carleshia Jimerson.
