Crystal River Man Shot and Killed; CCSO Major Crimes Unit Investigates

On the morning of Monday, October 28, 2024, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in Crystal River. Deputies responded to the scene and found 62-year-old Kimp O’Dell Knight suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital by Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR), where he was pronounced deceased.

Following the incident, detectives from the CCSO Major Crimes Unit (MCU) were called to investigate. As of now, no arrests have been made, but authorities stated there is no identified threat to public safety.

“Our condolences go out to the family of Mr. Knight, whose life was taken in an apparent act of violence,” said Sheriff Prendergast. “The detectives of the Major Crimes Unit will continue to work tirelessly on this case to bring the perpetrator to justice and keep our citizens safe. If anyone in the community has information about this case, we urge them to come forward and help bring closure to Mr. Knight’s family.”
